Boughton under Blean
This project is a modernisation and extension of an attractive Victorian primary school in Boughton under Blean, near Canterbury.
A ‘Central Street’ zone acts as a flexible communal learning and group teaching space. Softly lit through colour filtered glazing, this calming central area leads directly into each of the six new classrooms as well as the new reception space.
Each classroom offers a wet/dry area, cloaks storage and a carpeted reading area in addition to a teacher’s ‘pod’. They open up to an external decked area which acts as additional teaching space, while the reception class opens to a play area with covering canopy.
Additional parking and a dedicated SEN care suites further tailor the project to the school’s specific needs, whilst a considered reorganisation of the existing school yields a strengthened circulation and significant improvement in the school’s function.
