Beach Blanket Babylon sets its sights on Margate
We are pleased to present our design proposal for a new boutique hotel, restaurant and bar situated directly opposite the Turner Contemporary Gallery in Margate. The design has been commissioned by Beach Blanket Babylon who hold prestigious restaurants in both Notting Hill and Shoreditch. They are keen to add to their current portfolio and provide a new destination restaurant in Margate.
The proposal focuses on restoring the existing buildings historically significant façades, bringing what is a derelict building back to life. A contemporary intervention is to be set back from the existing façades allowing the buildings historical character to be retained. This element of the proposal will replace the existing roof and form a bar and roof terrace and it is intended that frosted glass channels will be used to clearly distinguish itself whilst remain sensitive to the existing identity.
The ground floor will retain the original hotel entrance facing Fort Hill and will accommodate the proposed restaurant and hotel reception. The restaurant is intended to provide an intimate dining venue with display kitchen.
On the first and second floors, a total of 9 boutique hotel rooms with en-suite facilities will be provided, each overlooking the Turner Gallery, sea and the setting sun.
Planning is to be submitted imminently and we will keep you up to date with its progress.
