Elwick Place - Model to Mock-Up

Guy Hollaway Architects are delighted to have seen our model of the proposed curved gold woven mesh façade for Elwick Place develop into a full scale 1.1 mock-up. The large scale mock-up has been subject to a variety of tests, including wind, rain, acoustic and dynamic testing plus daytime/night time visual performance tests.

The analysis of the tests has provided invaluable knowledge which will enable the team to improve the design, including review fixings details, inform sequencing to ensure the highest quality (whilst ensuring that we understand how the complex geometry and materiality of the façade will perform in the wind and rain) but perhaps, most interestingly how the façade will look from day to night using lighting and possible back projection of imagery onto the façade.

The eye-catching Elwick Place development, which is being built by by developers Stanhope on land owned by ABC at the former cattle market opposite County Square, includes a six-screen cinema, eight restaurants and a 58-room Travelodge.

The Contractor has completed groundworks at the site and are now erecting the steel frame for the cinema. Progress can be viewed via our timelapse video (play button located on first image).
