Elwick Place goes to Public Consultation
A public consultation event for the redevelopment of the Elwick Place site in Ashford town centre will take place from 10am to 3pm on Thursday 30 July and 3pm to 8pm on Friday 31 July. This will be held at Unit 16A, County Square Shopping Centre, Ashford, adjacent to the site.
The proposal is for a high quality investment by Stanhope in the town centre, which will involve a five-screen cinema, circa 1000 seats; with places to eat and drink around a new square. A family hotel will support Ashford’s growing tourist economy, whilst restaurant space will attract the country’s favourite dining experiences. Elwick square is to be extended, creating an attractively landscaped space designed by Gillespies; set to house events and pop up markets.
Gary Bourne, Director at Stanhope, said:
‘The upcoming public exhibition represents the culmination of many months of hard work with the team at Ashford Borough Council, who have been pivotal in helping bring forward this important site, about the best solution for Elwick Place in the context of the wider regeneration of Ashford. We’re eager to present our plans to the public and think people will be very excited when they see our vision.’
Cllr Gerry Clarkson, Leader of Ashford Borough Council, said:
‘This is excellent news on a priority development site in Ashford and we are delighted to see these exciting proposals for the town centre come forward.’
‘The council has been working hard with potential investors to get to this position and to achieve a high quality investment in the town centre. A town centre cinema with places to eat and drink around a new square will be a real draw and will help to bring extra vitality to the town centre during the day and evening.’
